USP: The annual carnival at this famous French watering place is

ludicrous papier-mache forms are worn by the paraders, which
give a gigantic appearance. The mammoth floats remind one of

G 207 OPIUM PIPE, THE - Part 2 420ft FR
A young Naval Lieutenant, Rene de Kernadec, ignores his orders
and calls to smoke opium with his sweetheart, Suzanne. Whilst
there, his ship is destroyed and he is reported missing among
the forty men killed. Being dishonored, he joins a foreign navy,
under an assumed name, where five years later his father, Admiral
de Kernadec, recognises him during an inspection. After much
explaining and pleading the son is forgiven.

Notes:

1. The initial letter 'E' or 'G' were used in the original catalogues to distinguish between Educational & General items.

2. Many shorter films were supplied as two titles on one spool - hence numbers like 001a and 001b - the length appearing after the 'b' entry is the total length of the two items supplied on that spool. Where listed the 28mm film length is in feet. The original 35mm cinema print length is shown in metres - sorry! (1 metre = 3feet 3inches approx.)

3. The titles listed are from a UK Pathéscope 28mm film catalogue - collectors discover that in many cases the actual title on the film (or even the original film can) is a bit different - this can affect a film's alphabetic listing. Titles were often translated literally from the original French Pathé ones.

4. This listing currently includes all the fairly early UK releases - maybe around 1912/14 - many other titles were issued - titles will be added as available - incidentally later films have the reference number included on the title frame - the Slow Motion film portrayed at the top of this page is numbered 876.

5. These UK 28mm film releases were all printed in France, similar titles (and others) would have been issued there, but of course with French titles.

6. The majority of these 28mm film releases seem to have the same running time as the original French Pathé 35mm cinema releases - later many of these films were released on the 9.5mm 'home movie' film gauge, but generally in a shortened form.

6. I am adding descriptions for some films, initially those in my own collection - these descriptions are often from an American Pathe 28mm catalogue, kindly supplied by Dave Wyatt.
