2001 Majorca - 3

November 2001 will go down in the history books of Majorca - there was a genuine hurricane - winds over 100mph, lashing rain etc. The sea is just getting rough -

The aftermath saw 30,000 trees down on the island, mainly pines as they have such shallow roots.

Roads were blocked

With blocked roads, no electricity or phones there were queues for the one shop that tried to provide hot pies and sandwiches - perhaps self-catering isn't such a good idea (our hotel had an emergency generator and food!)

More devastation - luckily only one car driver was killed - the storm did its worst at night

The new glass bottomed cruise boat wasn't in too good a state - it was eventually scrapped

These trees brought down the electricity and phone lines - but the authorities, with many willing volunteers got things sorted out in only a few days - would take the UK months I fear!

So much for the new Paula Supermarket and this cafe!
