The 9.5mm movie film gauge, introduced
in 1922 in France by Pathé-Baby, part of the then giant
Pathé-Frères group,
arrived in the UK the following year and was effectively the
first home movie film size.
GROUP 9.5 - FIFTY YEARS OF HISTORY
This interesting item was written by then Club Secretary Ken Valentine as an inclusion in the programme booklet for the Group 9.5 Annual Get-Together on 11th September 2011, held at Harpenden Halls and celebrating the fifty years Golden Jubilee of UK Group 9.5, the club that kept - well still does keep, the 9.5mm home movie film gauge running in the UK.
I remember joining Group 9.5 soon after the club was formed, but my membership number is 200, so many more of us 'old-timers' joined before me - I was then 16 years old, but already had been filming since I was about 11 and by then had Dekko and Prince cine cameras, plus a Pathéscope 200B silent projectotr and a Pathéscope "Son" talkie projector, pluys of course my first 9.5mm projector, a hand-turned Pathéscope "Ace", but motorised using a Meccano motor!
